This week’s Action update is full of possibilities!

  • Last call for community of interest maps. Hesitating? Watch this 15-minute ‘how to’ video: https://youtu.be/KnYHDwhJieM. Then sign up at https://bit.ly/MapPlay.
  • 7PM CT August 9 – monthly meeting. Special RSVP: https://www.twelveletterfilms.com/north-shore/. The August 9 meeting features the film making team that brought us Can You Hear Us Now? Called one of the most important documentaries of 2020 by The Isthmus, the film lays out the devastating impact partisan gerrymandering has had on Wisconsin. By arrangement with the producers, you can sign up to watch the film for free Friday August 6 – Monday August 9: https://www.twelveletterfilms.com/north-shore/. Want to host a viewing in your home? Hit reply and we’ll get you a discussion guide, and will publish your event if you want us to. Whether you watch the film alone or in a group, we will all gather virtually at 7PM Monday August 9, for an in depth discussion of the film. And we’ll learn how, if we stand with and for each other, “They WILL hear us now!”
  • It’s time to get out in the fresh air to combat gerrymandering! The League of Women Voters has produced door-hangers detailing what gerrymandering has meant to the Wisconsin voters. On August 15-16, we are working with Grassroots North Shore to deliver this lit and more. If your legs aren’t up to walking, we will also be “tabling” that weekend. Whether you walk or man a table, we encourage you to get a bit of fresh air for fair maps! RSVP HERE.
  • The Fair Maps Coalition monthly newsletter is out! https://bit.ly/FMCJuly2021News. Among other things, the newsletter has an article written by a Republican statesman, highlighting the adverse effect gerrymandering has on the party in power.
  • Great article from In These Times. The article, titled “Is Gerrymandering Forever?,” is part of their Wisconsin Idea series, with a focus on rural Wisconsin. Complaints about our maps come from cities and rural communities alike. Read it – Is Gerrymandering Forever?
