We start with a quick one: sign the petition! This is a no-brainer, so do it now and TELL YOUR LEGISLATOR TO PASS FAIR MAPS!
Now we have that done, we point out that Taking Action is important, but so is R&R, so the Mapping Team is taking a few days off. We will be back at it next week. As of now we’ve used something we call Map Play to help roughly 30 folks map their Communities of Interest. If you signed up for Map Play and did not hear from us, reach out to Cheryl Maranto at cmaranto4860@gmail.com. If you have not yet signed up, do so at https://bit.ly/MapPlay. You can read more about Map Play at https://northshorefairmaps.com/maps/.
We are working on guests for our next monthly meeting, 7PM Monday June 14. Because we draw folks from a large area we will stick with virtual meetings, but in July we plan to have a real live picnic! Watch for more details.
Are you getting the Fair Maps Coalition newsletter? If not, sign up at https://www.fairmapswi.com/. If you signed up and are not getting it, make sure it’s not landing in your spam folder. And if you want to see the issue that just came out, check it out at http://bit.ly/FMC_News_June21. These are “must read” newsletters, with summaries of recent activities (there are a ton of them) and more.
Finally, we limit news reporting this week to a few “big” things (see the FMC newsletter for a much more extensive list):
From Politico Magazine comes an interview with Moon Duchin, who runs the DistrictR program at Tufts University. Especially if you like math, this one’s for you: Is Gerrymandering About to Become More Difficult?
From the Marquette Lawyer Magazine comes an excellent overview of Wisconsin redistricting / gerrymandering: Between the Lines.
From The Cap Times comes a podcast about WI redistricting aptly called “How will this battle likely play out and what will it mean for the next decade of Wisconsin politics?”
Next week we will be back in business, for now, enjoy the beautiful days….
